1. How were the Tripods able to control the people?
In the book there are three main reasons how the Tripods were able to control the mankind. First, the Tripod used the metal Cap to destroy human thinkings and control the Capped ones by controlling their brains. Second, the Tripods were able to control the mankind by controlling the human knowledge and destroying the past knowledge that humans find out true. For example in my world, the teachers and the parents control our knowledge by teaching us what they want us to learn. Perhaps, in Will's world the Tripods control the human knowledge by teaching the uncapped teenagers how Tripods are great and honor to serve. Third, they also made human live in small separated valley so that they can't develop stronger technology and facts in the enormous cities. In the big ancient city (Paris), there were tremendous things that the ancestors made in the story such as grenade, watches, METRO, etc. If the humans kept the city develop better technology until 'now-days' in the story, the city would not be able to be controlled by the Tripods due to their powerful technology.
2. Find evidence (quotations from the novel) to show that even though Will is comfortable living at the castle, he is frustrated that the Comte, Comtesse, and Eloise have been capped.
In the story, when Will departed to the castle, he notices that the people there seemed freed and happy even though they are capped! This convinced Will making him want to live their. He had a choice, go to the White Mountains and earn freedom or stay in the castle and get a beautiful girlfriend, with a enormous house but has to be capped. This was an hard choice for Will. "I am glad of that. Perhaps if you are happy, you will not want to leave us." This was an article from the book that proved that Will liked being in the castle. 'A future here, in this rich lovely country, in the castle with Eloise..." This was how much he loved being the in the Castle of the Red Tower but there was one enormous thing that unpleasant him. It was being capped. 'To accept would be to let down the others----Henry and Beanpole, the vagrant Ozymandias, Captain Curtis, all the free men in the White Mountains. I would not do that: nothing would tempt to do that' He was happy there but he really hated becoming one of the Cap ones. He wold never tempt to be capped.
3. Find evidence (quotes) to show how Will feels about being capped.
Will wanted to freedom. He didn't wanted to live under the Tripods' control. He didn't want to be slave. "I would rather die than be capped," this was an article from the beginning of this book when Will and Henry decided to go to the White Mountains. He hated being controlled by the tripods. He even said he would die than being capped. He didn't understand why humans had to follow the Tripods' rule and order. Will would never give up about going to the White Mountains where humans could earn freedom. Where Will, Henry and beanpole could earn freedom.
